The rules around purchasing a funny number plate are the same as buying any other number plate — it cannot be used to make a vehicle appear younger than it is.

For example, if you want to buy a plate that says “funky”, and you have a 2022 vehicle, you cannot buy the number plate “FI24 NKY”, as it would suggest that your vehicle was manufactured in 2024.

Transferring your new funny number plate onto your car doesn’t need to be a hassle. The process is relatively straightforward — there are four main requirements your vehicle must have:

• An MOT
• It must be operable
• You must have proof of tax
• It needs to be available for inspection.
